About Us

Lancaster Roses WI was founded in 2012 as one of the new WI’s springing up. We are part of the Lancashire Federation of Women’s corn dolliesInstitutes (LFWI) and the National Federation (NFWI)

We are a diverse group with ages ranging from mid 20s to ‘Old enough to know better’. We welcome anyone and everyone, from the traditional WI jam maker to the traditional WI belly-dancer (yes, we’ve done that!).

We run a programme that tries to be as varied as our membership. During the course of a year we run a mixture of workshop evenings where we join in, demonstrations, and talks. Previous events have included Zumba, Salsa and Belly-dancing for the active; making corn dollies, a stone-cutting demonstration, gift-wrapping, flower arranging, old-fashioned children’s party, mountain rescue, dogs for the disabled, Quaker history, a talk from a local author and another by a forensic scientist.

As part of the LFWI and NFWI we also have the opportunity to join in with other WIs for trips, conferences, workshops, lectures, walks, quizzes and a whole host of other things.
